We are probably the closest motel on George St to the Otago Golf Club at Balmacewen – just 2.3km or a 5 minute drive.

The tournament takes place Friday 25th, Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th of February 2011.

Friday & Saturday will be the Pro-Am using two courses, Balmacewen and St Clair Golf Club with half the field playing 18 holes at each course, swapping for the next day, with the final day Sunday being played at Balmacewen – Professionals only.

We have to say “World Cup Rugby” because, due to (what I think are) over the top branding laws, we are not allowed to use the terms “Rugby World Cup” or “RWC 2011″.

We are also pleased to say that we will not be levelling a surcharge on our tariffs for the nights of the games.  Because this is such a major event, some special terms and conditions will apply.  These are:

• A minimum stay of 3 nights will be required.
• A non-refundable deposit equivalent to 1 night’s must be paid when making the reservation.
• Full payment of outstanding balance will be due 28 days prior to check-in date.
• Our group cancellation policy will apply to all reservations (See below)

Route from Tourist Court Cottages to Otago University

Turn left as you leave Tourist Court Cottages and go south along George until you come to St David St.

Turn left into St David St and this will take you directly to Otago University main entrance.

Approximate Distance: 600 metres.

I was enthusing about this to another motel owner the other day and was flabbergasted to be greeted with a very negative response.

“What use are cruise ships to motelliers?”, he said. “The passengers do not come and stay with us.”

Cruise Ships Benefit Everybody

This person has been a motellier for over 15 years and (I had previously thought) knew quite a bit about the tourism industry.  However, this comment suggests that he has some serious gaps both in his knowledge and in his and vision.

It is conservatively estimated that the 2010/2011 season will inject about $40 million into the Dunedin economy. All Dunedin residents and businesses will benefit from this.

If Dunedin gives all of these cruise passengers a warm welcome and a good time, then there will be 125,000 enthusiastic ambassadors going home to places all around the world telling their friends and neighbours, not just how great New Zealand is, but also about OUR fantastic city.

They will be telling them that it is real “must see” for anyone visiting New Zealand and not (as was previously the case) just a place to pass through en route to somewhere “interesting” or “exciting”!

Dunedin is a Destination

Dunedin is now being marketed, seen and appreciated by our visitors for the superb destination that it is.

So let’s make sure that we convert ALL of our visitors into ambassadors. The city, with its heritage, architecture, wildlife and other attractions plays its part – let us make sure that we all play ours.

The gloriously sunny weather we have been enjoying has added to the overall spectacle at the Botanical Gardens.

So do come along and see experience this fantastic floral display while it lasts.  It is quite stunning!

While you are here take enough time to experience all of the other great attractions Dunedin has to offer.

We would love to welcome you provide you with accommodation in one of our traditional, cosy, comfortable cottages.

Primrose Cottage may be a TINY BUDGET unit but is equipped with everything you will need for a very comfortable stay.  Although it is next to the road it is insulated from street noise by having no windows on the roadside.  However, if you are overly sensitive to traffic noise then perhaps you would be better off in one of our other cottages.

If you want more room, then Rosemary Cottage or Thyme Cottage might suit you better.  These are large, spacious and comfortable studio cottages with full kitchen facilities and shower and toilet.

For that really, really comfortable stay you should try King Arthur Cottage or King George Cottage.  These are spacious 1 bedroom cottages Superking bed, lounge, full kitchen facilities, bath and shower.

Tourist Court Cottages are set in very pleasant  garden surrounds that will allow you to relax and unwind – even is you are traveling on business.

For your added peace of mind, all units have security stays on windows and safety chains on doors.

Well here we are back in Aussie, landing yesterday after a great 5 weeks in your beautiful country. A lot of the enjoyment came from the time we spent staying with your establishment and Beth & I would like to thank you for your attendance to our needs and for your pleasant manner.
